The 1808 Foundation's 7th Annual Autism Awareness Golf Tournament concluded last weekend with unprecedented success, raising over $350,000 for autism support programs and research initiatives.

The event, held at the prestigious Oakridge Golf Club, attracted a record 144 participants including professional golfers, celebrities, and dedicated supporters from around the country. This year's fundraising total represents a 40% increase over last year's event.

A Day of Golf and Purpose

Under perfect weather conditions, participants enjoyed 18 holes of championship golf while contributing to a cause that impacts millions of families worldwide. The tournament featured several contest holes, a silent auction, and special appearances by golf professionals who volunteered their time to support autism awareness.

Professional golfer Jamie Matthews, who has a son on the autism spectrum, served as this year's honorary chair. "This tournament combines my passion for golf with my personal commitment to autism advocacy," Matthews said. "The work that the 1808 Foundation does to support families affected by autism is truly life-changing."

Impact Beyond the Green

Proceeds from the tournament will fund several initiatives:

  • Expansion of the "Golf for All" adaptive golf program for children with autism
  • Family support services including respite care and parent education
  • Sensory-friendly community events throughout the year
  • Research grants focused on early intervention strategies
"The funding from this tournament allowed us to participate in specialized therapy that our insurance wouldn't cover. It's made a world of difference for our daughter's development and our family's well-being." β€” The Rodriguez Family, program beneficiaries

Community Support

This year's success wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors and volunteers. Major sponsors included Global Insurance Group, TechForward Solutions, and Parkview Medical Center, along with dozens of local businesses that contributed to the silent auction.

Over 50 volunteers helped ensure the event ran smoothly, from registration and course management to food service and auction coordination.

Looking Forward

Planning is already underway for next year's tournament, with a goal of expanding to a two-day event that could potentially double the fundraising impact.

"The growth of this tournament reflects the increasing awareness of autism and the commitment of our community to supporting affected individuals and families," said Lisa Williams, the 1808 Foundation's Autism Initiative Director. "We're not just raising fundsβ€”we're raising understanding and acceptance."
